LRNRD eyes potential Lovewell expansion project

Looking for ways to make the most of streamflows in the Republican River Basin, officials of the Lower Republican Natural Resources District now are eyeing the potential for increasing irrigation storage capacity at Kansas' Lovewell Reservoir.

In a news release sent to the Tribune Friday afternoon, district officials confirmed they would like to pursue a project involving the lake in northern Jewell County.

Such a project is just in the talking stages at this point. The likely first step would be for the federal agency that manages the lake to conduct a detailed feasibility study and determine if the idea is viable, the LRNRD said.
