Mayor fills vacant seats

The two empty seats on the Hastings City Council, one of which has been vacant since June, will be filled Monday and restore the council to its eight-member voting power.

Ginny Skutnik, medical staff services coordinator at Mary Lanning Healthcare, has been recommended for the first ward council seat vacated by Todd Oatman in early August.

Sarah Hoops, an Adams County native who assists with her family's farm southwest of town, was chosen for the second ward seat vacated by Roger Glen in June.

"I'm very excited to have those seats filled," Mayor Vern Powers said.
