After spending the spring semester of her junior year in a hospital, Cassidy Wormstadt has returned to Adams Central for her final year of high school.

Cassidy was on her way to school Jan. 28, driving southbound on Alda Road in foggy, icy conditions. The car she was driving slid and hit the 56th train car of a loaded Union Pacific coal train around 8 a.m.

She was thrown from the vehicle. Cassidy landed on her left side, which sustained more damage and has been slower to recover than her right side.

After spending almost three weeks at Bryan LGH West trauma center in Lincoln, she was transferred Feb. 13 to the pediatric wing of Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. She was released Aug. 2.

"It was a little tough getting transitioned, but I think she's doing really well in school now," her mother Lisa Wormstadt said Thursday. "They're being very helpful at Adams Central."
