Playing horse shoes and tossing rubber balls at wooden milk bottles while music that would’ve been contemporary 90 years ago hung in the air, Homestead Assisted Living residents and their families partied like it was the 1920s.
Just as they have in previous years, Homestead staff members played host Saturday afternoon to a theme party for the assisted living center’s annual family-resident barbecue. The barbecue occurs as part of National Assisted Living Week, Sept. 9-15.
The theme this year was Homestead’s Puttin’ on the Ritz Roaring ’20s Party. Like administrative assistant Sally Consbruck of rural Hastings, most staff members wore shimmering flapper dresses and black bob wigs.
Consbruck, who was overseeing the milk bottle toss, was known as Coco for the day.
“It’s been a great turnout and I think everybody had a really good time,” she said. “I know the staff has had a good time planning it.”
