Faces of Tribland: Belva Junker

Belva Junker, a facilitator for the GriefShare support group
in Hastings, hangs a sign Aug. 18 outside the First St. Paul's
Youth and Family Center at Fourth Street and Lexington
Avenue.
When Belva Junker was recruited to be a GriefShare facilitator, she turned it down at first.

"Then, I finally said yes," she said.

And she hasn't looked back since. GriefShare began its fifth year in Hastings on Aug. 29.

GriefShare is a special seminar and support group for people enduring the death of a loved one. Junker's 24-year background as a vocational counselor in Hastings prepared her for her role as a GriefShare facilitator.

"GriefShare works as an emergency room type of approach and by that they mean that people can enter at any time and they will not feel like they're not understanding what's going on because each sessions covers a particular topic," Junker said.
