As the Hastings Symphony Orchestra opens its 88th consecutive season with a free concert Sunday, its director Byron Jensen praised orchestra members for their commitment to maintaining a high level of excellence on their instruments.

He said that such diverse talent is assembled under one baton is something the entire community can take pride in.

"HSO has some incredible musicians who devote a tremendous amount of time into making this orchestral tradition remain vital," he said. "I love the fact that we have an intergenerational orchestra that ranges from those who don't want us to know their age to those who are high school students. I can't think of any other activity that would bring people like that together."
