Diocese names new bishop

Auxiliary bishop of Denver James Conley, 57, will succeed Bishop Fabrian Bruskewitz as bishop of Lincoln, the diocese announced this morning.

With the selection, the diocesse accepted the resignation of Bruskewitz, 77, who served as bishop there since 1992. The appointment and resignation were publicized in Washington today by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, apostolic nuncio to the United States.

Locally, the announcement was made Friday morning during a news conference in Lincoln in Dawson Hall at the Blessed John XXIII Diocesen Center.

“I’ve been a preist for almost 33 years and this is only the third bishop since I’ve been serving here, so, yeah, it’s a big moment, a big change for the people," said the Pastor Michael Houlihan of St. Michael’s Church in Hastings.
