League hears death penalty issues

An advocate against the death penalty answered several common questions and misconceptions at a League of Women Voters luncheon Friday at YWCA Adams County.

Tim Lundy, field organizer for Nebraskans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, presented a series of questions regarding the death penalty, followed by responses from his organization.

Some proponents of the death penalty ask why taxpayers should be forced to pay for feeding and housing killers. Lundy said putting an inmate to death costs an estimated three to seven times more than that of an inmate serving a life sentence.
