City looks to host marathon next summer

Earlier this summer, almost 300 runners participated in the inaugural Healthy Hastings Run for Your Life Challenge, completing 5k, 10k and half-marathon races around the city.

Now, already anticipating a good crowd and a tourism boost for next year's event, the event organizers are hoping to work with the city to add a full marathon race to the Run for Your Life lineup.

At a work session Tuesday night, the Hastings City Council heard a presentation from Ron Alexander, who organized the inaugural Run for Your Life races this year and has outlined a potential 26.2-mile full-marathon route.
