Deshler native leaves Hollywood, returns to roots

Ben Murray returned to Thayer County in May to work for
the Germer Murray & Johnson law firm after 20 years that
included a short Hollywood career.
HEBRON — A steady Hollywood career was nothing for Ben Murray compared to being surrounded by the people who’ve known him all his life.

The 38-year-old Murray has been working at his father Joe’s law firm, Germer, Murray & Johnson, since he graduated in May from the University of Nebraska College of Law.
He passed the Nebraska Bar Exam in July and was sworn in, with all the other new lawyers, this afternoon at the State Capitol Rotunda. The ceremony is the culmination of a journey that took him a from a childhood in Deshler where he thought he “would just fall into something,” to stints on big network TV series such as “The West Wing,” “ER,” “American Dreams” and “Heroes,” and back to Thayer County.

“Nobody (in Deshler) cares, really, about any of the stuff I did on TV or any of that stuff,” he said during an interview in his Hebron office. “So that’s nice. I never had more friends in my life than when I was in Deshler even though there are only 800 people there.”
