4 Adams County projects receive funding

The first revenues generated by a new 1 percent lodging tax will go to four projects that the Adams County Convention and Visitors Bureau hopes will eventually bring more tourism dollars to Hastings.

At its meeting Tuesday, the Adams County Board of Supervisors approved the four grants for projects at the Hastings Museum, Adams County Historical Society, Crystal Lake, and Prairie Loft.

The total of the four grants was $26,027. Each entity must provide a 50-50 match. Kaleena Fong, visitors bureau executive director, said the money has to be spent on capital improvements that will draw more visitors to each of the locations.

“This isn’t a tax that residents pay; this is a tax that people pay when they come stay in our community,” she said.
