Then: In the fall of 2012, teachers were still leery yet excited about each student at Hastings High receiving a laptop computer to use in the classroom.

Each student in grades nine through 12 was given an Apple laptop to use during the school year through the district's new 1-to-1 computer program.

Teachers were encouraged to find ways to incorporate the computers into their classrooms and curriculums in all areas of study.

Now: A year later, not all teachers have mastered the system, but there are at least a few teachers who have taken the idea and run with it.

"I don't want to go back to what we had," said health and physical education teacher Mike Nicolarsen.
