Couples dance night away at fairgrounds

Nancy Schade, from Portland, Ore., and Jim Langdon,
Silverthorn, Colo., participate in a round dance during the
Nebraska Square & Round Dance Convention Friday at the
Adams County Fairgrounds.

John Phelps was a graduate student in Tennessee when he first decided to try square dancing.

"I decided this was some way to spend my Friday evenings rather than going out with the rest of them and so I got into square dancing," Phelps said.

Thirty years later, Phelps and his wife Patricia Boylan of Omaha have returned to the hobby with their children now in college and more free time on their hands.

The couple is just one of dozens of couples to descend on the Adams County Fairgrounds this weekend for the 43rd annual Nebraska Square and Round Dance Convention.
