Healthcare Foundation building Thursday afternoon.
Johnston has remained busy volunteering after retiring
in 1992 after serving 20 years as director of dietary
services at Mary Lanning.
Hastings resident Shirley Johnston has long been fascinated by food.
Johnston, who turns 83 in December, has spent the better portion of her life preparing, studying, planning menus, training aspiring dietitians and serving healthy food offerings to people in hospitals, nursing homes, schools and shelters.
The director of dietary services at Mary Lanning for 20 years up until 1992, she was instrumental in launching the Meals on Wheels program in Hastings 40 years ago.
“I really always was interested in food,” she said. “I like to cook.”
