Charter outage lasts 7-plus hours

Charter Communications works to repair cable and Internet
lines along Osborne Drive East Tuesday night in Hastings.
An interruption in service at Charter Communications reportedly left thousands of local customers without Internet, phone and cable television services for more than seven hours.

The outage made it impossible for an estimated 10,000 telephone customers to utilize the 911 emergency system between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning, said Captain Gene Boner of Hastings Police Department. Internet service used by officers to access iPads used by officers was also down, making it necessary for the dispatcher to use radio communication to reach officers.

“It didn’t hurt us in any way,” Boner said. “It was just a little less efficient.”
