College celebrates life of wrestler killed Saturday

Wrestling shoes belonging to Brad Cusatis Jr., who was killed
Saturday, sit in the center of a wrestling mat during a
Celebration of Life Thrursday night at Lynn Farrell Arena. It
is tradition for a wrestler to place his shoes in the center of
the mat at the end of his career.
The Lynn Farrell Arena was filled with sniffles and laughter as the life of Brad Cusatis Jr. was celebrated Thursday evening. The event was to retire Brad’s wrestling shoes.
The long-standing tradition for wrestlers and coaches is a ceremony where the wrestler’s shoes are placed at the center of the mat after their last match.
Cusatis and his mother were killed Saturday morning when their car was hit by a train north of Webber, Kan.
“It takes athletes losing parents and team mates to truly understand the relationship between coach and athlete,” said Hastings College wrestling coach Sean Kelley.
