´╗┐Hundreds of engineering students descended on south central Nebraska Friday as prospective employees educated the students on unique job opportunities in the area.

The Central Nebraska Engineering Day event gave freshmen engineering students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Nebraska at Omaha the opportunity to learn about the engineering career opportunities in south central Nebraska.

About 600 students toured manufacturing plants and other facilities in Grand Island, Hastings, Doniphan, Central City and the surrounding area.

"Doing things like this to build relationships with students at a young age, they realize there's opportunities out here so they don't have to go to Kansas City or Texas," said Dave Rippe, executive director of the Hastings Economic Development Corp.
