Coming off of a 3-0 weekend and winning the Holdrege invite, the Hastings High softball team returned home to the Smith Softball Complex on Tuesday and went toe-to-toe with the defending state runners-up.
That is, for about five innings.
Class B No. 6 York (4-1) pulled away with a 5-run outburst in the top of the sixth inning thanks to three errors by the Tigers’ (4-3) defense.
Hastings High head coach Pete Theoharis said there were still some positive things he could take away from the 8-2 loss.
“For five innings, we played right with them,” he said. “I think it shows how far we’ve come as a team and as a program. We were right there with them. We get rid of a couple bugaboos and things might’ve been different.”
