Offense helps Crusaders down Whippets

MINDEN — Elyssa Kohmetscher likes to smile when she's pitching in the circle for Grand Island Central Catholic/Doniphan-Trumbull.
And up until the fifth inning, she had plenty of reasons to smile.

She'd only given up one baserunner to Minden in their first game of a triangular Tuesday.

Then the Whippets erased a 3-0 deficit and scored four runs on Kohmetscher in that fifth inning.

Fortunately for the Crusader junior, her offense tallied 10 runs over the final two innings to help down Minden 13-6.

GICC/D-T's offense didn't do much in its second contest of the night, as the team fell to Class B No. 3 Grand Island Northwest 13-0.

Minden (1-6) went 0-2 at its own triangular, falling to the Vikings (6-1) 13-2.
