Tigers open the season with victory

Hastings High's Madeline Warrick celebrates in the fourth set
against McCook Thursday in Hastings.
The Hastings High volleyball team put an emphasis on its summer workouts. The Tigers' club team traveled around the state and was 19-1 at one point.

In Thursday's season opener, all of that extra work was put on display.

Hastings High defeated McCook 25-16, 24-26, 25-10, 25-18 in its season debut. The Tigers' outside hitters attacked with power, their defense frustrated the Bison and the sets were on target throughout the night.
Hastings High head coach Dave Hepner said it was a complete victory for his team, with the exception of one set.

"Honestly, 3-0 is what it should have been, but (McCook is) not a bad team. They made a few more mistakes in the first set, so we jumped on them there, but in the second set we stopped trusting each other," Hepner said. "But in the next set, everybody stayed in their area, trusted each other and played fantastic."
