A team’s character isn’t necessarily shown on a scoreboard or a box score. But Hastings High showed Thursday night that they have plenty of it.

After dropping the first two sets of their volleyball match against Kearney, the Tigers could’ve easily let up.

Instead, the Hastings rallied and evened match. The Tigers (1-7) took the momentum and the next two sets, but it wasn’t enough as Kearney (1-3) took the fifth set en route to a 25-16, 25-20, 17-25, 22-25, 15-9 win.

“There’s no quit in them, and they’re a team that just battles,” HHS head coach Dave Hepner. “I’m really proud. But you know, it’s not enough. It’s not enough just to battle. We have to get over the hump, and with this team we’re close."
