Broncos respond after five-set loss to 12th-ranked team

After suffering a heart-breaking, five-set loss to No. 12 Bellevue University on Friday evening in the Hastings College Classic at Lynn Farrell Arena, Hastings College women’s volleyball coach Matt Buttermore wanted his young squad to respond Saturday by competing better to finish the two-day tournament.

The Broncos did just that, defeating Johnson & Wales of Denver in three sets in their opening match of the day and then cruising past Montana Western 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-10 to finish the tournament 3-1. The team improved to 9-4 on the season.

“I just wanted us to come out and compete for five sets if we needed it. We did well against Bellevue (Friday) for a few sets, but we didn’t compete the entire time like I wanted us to.” Buttermore said. “We don’t have the experience to be able to let up in close ones.”
