Tigers drop doubleheader to Northwest

Hastings Tiger's pitcher Abby Loetterle pitches the ball in for
a strike Monday evening at the Smith Softball Complex.
Hastings High softball coach Pete Theoharis knows his defense is the strength of his team. When the defense makes mistakes, it can make for a long night for the Tigers.

That was the case Monday when Hastings High took on Class B No. 6 Northwest. The Tigers lost the first game 7-0 and the second 16-6.

"I know we can play with the best teams in our district. I know the scores don't show that, but the first game, I think they had four unearned runs," Theoharis said. "We're still very young. We have seven sophomores and freshmen who are starting, along with a couple juniors and seniors. There's a lot of youth that's just getting more and more into it."
