St. Cecilia's Arika Kitten hits past Doniphan-Trumbull's Lauren
Hinrichs Tuesday night in Doniphan. St. Cecilia won in three
sets.
DONIPHAN — After winning the Fillmore Central invite, the St. Cecilia volleyball team had a bit of a hiccup against Doniphan-Trumbull — in the first set.
The Hawkettes overcame an early deficit to defeat the Cardinals 25-18, 25-6, 25-15 Tuesday in Doniphan. St. Cecilia looked to be in trouble in the first set trailing 16-12, but the Class C-2 No. 1 Hawkettes (10-2) scored 13 of the next 15 points to take the opening set and build enough momentum to cruise through the next two sets. STC head coach Alan VanCura said his team simply wasn’t taking care of the ball in the opening set.
“Well, the first game we just made too many unforced errors. Whether it was hitting errors, blocking errors or we didn’t pass real well, we were our worst enemy,” VanCura said. “And in the second and third games, we cleaned some things up and basically kept the ball in play and let them make some errors. We just had to take care of business.”
