Zimmerman: Hard work pays off for Superior

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what took place in the heads of the girls on the Superior volleyball team. Even head coach Kelsea Blevins can't exactly figure out what is driving her Wildcats team this season.

Whatever it is, it's working out well, as Class C-2 No. 9 Superior is off to an 8-0 start with wins over Class C-1 No. 10 Fillmore Central (6-1), Sutton (4-3) and Doniphan-Trumbull (7-4).
Blevins said she has a dedicated group of players who worked hard in the offseason. They worked out four times each week and recorded 90 percent attendance.

And even since the season and classes have started, the core group of girls on the Superior team have shown up to the gym at 7 a.m. three times a week for workouts — even when their coach isn't there.
