Fairbury deferred on the coin toss and chose to kick. Big mistake.
Adams Central made the Jeffs pay for that decision, as Buzz Niederklein exploded off tackle for a 65-yard touchdown scamper on the game's opening play. It was all downhill for the Jeffs from there, as Adams Central posted a 55-0 win it its home opener.
Niederklein was like a one-man show in the first quarter, running for three touchdowns and 168 yards before closing the half with 228 yards. He finished the game with 253 yards as the Patriots crunched out 482 rushing yards to go along with 65 through the air.
"When we got the ball, we thought we had a couple of plays where we thought we really could scheme (Fairbury) well with, and we got off to a great start," said AC coach Bill Carlin.
