So far, Thayer Central's season 'special'

HEBRON — It’s been a special season for the Thayer Central girls cross country team. The last time the Titans had a girls team qualify for state was 2002, and it’s been years since Thayer Central even had a full team of runners. With just less than three weeks until the district meet, the Titans are hoping to change all of that.

They appeared on their way Thursday, winning the Randall Smith Invitational at the Hebron Country Club with a team score of 35 points.

“I think with the four additions of Maddi (Reece), Shawna (Timmerman), Rachel (Heitmann), Sydney (Cottam), along with Bailey (Linton) who is our veteran, the girls have really come together as a good team and they’re excited about what they can accomplish — especially after getting past that first meet in Superior,” Long said. “And when they won in Fairbury, they realized this could be something pretty special.”
