Fillmore Central too much for Sutton

SUTTON — After losing to Sandy Creek in the championship of the Adams Central invite, the Fillmore Central volleyball team needed a strong performance before competing in a tournament full of Class B teams this weekend.

The Class C-1 No. 9 Panthers got just that Tuesday night, sweeping Class C-2 No. 7 Sutton 25-20, 25-21, 25-20. Fillmore Central (12-4) took Sutton’s (11-3) best shot, but the Panthers held on and finished the job — something that has been a struggle for the team at times this season.

“It was pretty important for us to get a win tonight. It seems like we’ve had a lot of issues this year,” said Fillmore Central head coach Michele Evans. “We’ve started out the season with several issues and other difficulties and squabbles and all the stuff that goes along with a team. For us to come out and get a win tonight was very important... we needed this.”
