What is the Tiger Classic, you ask?
No, it’s not a future home tournament for the Hastings High volleyball team this season. Instead, it’s a break down in play that’s been a thorn in the team’s side the past couple of seasons.
“OK, every year we work so hard and we pull what we call the ‘Tiger Classic’. Honestly, in every game during the second set, we say we’re not going to pull a ‘Tiger Classic’,” senior libero Kathleen Bartunek explained. “We get up and we win and then we just fall right back down.”
Avoiding those letdowns, among other things, is what’s helping the Class B No. 10 Tigers get off to an 8-0 start.
“I think we’ve just gotten tired of it,” Bartunek said. “We were tired of the almost. We lost almost every match last year by two points. “
