The Hastings College football team held on for a 28-14 season-opening win over Dordt on Saturday at Lloyd Wilson Field.
Dordt climbed to within 21-14 with 3:52 left in the game. The Defenders then tried an onsides kick, but the Broncos recovered. Junior running back Keenen Ballage then ran for a 41-yard touchdown to seal the game for Hastings.
Ballage finished with 113 rushing yard to lead the Broncos, playing their first game with Tony Harper as the head coach. Making his first collegiate start, HC quarterback John Dostal was 13-of-26 for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bronco defense recovered three fumbles in the game.
Hastings lost sophomore running back Dalton Sealey, a St. Cecilia graduate, and senior defensive lineman Adam Killip to leg injuries in the first half.
