Area teams open track season indoors

CRETE — The Kenesaw boys track team had five individual top three finishes and scored 41 team points to finish fourth at the Class C Doane College indoor track and field meet Friday at Fuhrer Field House in Crete.
Tri County won the boys team title with 76 points while Cross County was second with 65 and Shelton was third with 42 points.
Deshler finished sixth with 37 points and Sutton was eighth with 31 points.
Danny Streff was the lone individual champion for Kenesaw, winning the 3,200 in a time of 11:34.59 but the Blue Devils had four other individuals finish in the top three on their way to a fourth place team finish.
On the girls side, led by a pair of runner-up finishes from senior Macy Steinhauer Sutton finished fifth with 32 points.
Steinhauer finished second in both the 200 (28.39) and 55 hurdles (9.38) to pace the Mustangs, which finished five points ahead of sixth place Cross County.
Claire Bergen added a third place finish in the high jump (4-6) for Sutton.
Shelton won the girls team title with 78 points followed by Heartland with 74 points and Tri County with 65 points. Kenesaw finished eighth with 21 points while Deshler was ninth with 18 points.
