There are so many worthy causes and issues to spend your time on, such as helping our neighbors affected by the flooding this year or raising money for cancer research.
Alzheimer’s is an issue that not only has affected me and my family but almost everyone knows someone living with this disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is a growing health crisis and the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. According to the Alzheimer’s Association 2019 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report, there are more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, including 34,000 in Nebraska. It’s estimated that the lifetime cost of care for one person with Alzheimer’s is over $350,000.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s largest non-profit fundraiser for research on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The Alzheimer’s Association provides support to families locally and all over the world, funding for research to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and education on providing care for someone living with Alzheimer’s.
I am joining participants of all ages in the fight against the disease at Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. at Libs Park in Hastings. Please consider helping us work toward a cure for this disease by joining a team and walking with us.
